Glaumbaer Folk Museum

These farm houses that you can see in this open air museum in northern Iceland date from different periods in the 19th century. They were all built in the turf construction style, which was common in rural Iceland then.

The Icelandic grass grows very thickly, making this turf and the soil a very strong unit.

  2. Iceland is a truly beautiful country. However, alien to me. You have here wonderful photos.
But these roofs with grasses are wonderful, have been appropriate and practical in the old days.
