Art from trash

This fish is part of the exhibition in Ecomare (see also yesterday's post) and was carefully constructed by using all kinds of trash found in the sea and on the beach; tin cans, lids, rope, plastic etc etc.
I think it's a nice idea to create things like this as it really sets you thinking...

Ecomare's objective is enlarging the public interest for the preservation and recovery of nature and cultural values (landscapes, ecosystem, species) in the wadden region and the North Sea, with an emphasis on Texel.

Temporary receptable

"For sick and wounded birds when Ecomare is closed. The birds are able to rest in the dark. The receptable is regularly checked by the animal caretakers."

This box can be found along the entrance way to 'Ecomare': a nature museum, seal sanctuary, sea aquarium and a bird sanctuary located in the National Park Dunes of Texel. It's a place we like to visit to each time we stay on the island.

seal rescue

Inside the seal sanctuary of Ecomare on the island Texel, sick or wounded seals, or young ones left by their mother, are getting all the care they need. As soon as the animals are healthy enough to take care of themselves, they are brought back to sea in these kind of boxes.

In de zeehondenopvang van Ecomare op Texel krijgen zieke of gewonde zeehonden, of jongen die in de steek zijn gelaten door hun moeder, alle zorg die ze nodig hebben. Zodra ze weer gezond genoeg zijn om voor zichzelf te zorgen, worden ze in dit soort kratten terug naar zee gebracht.

feeding time

Earlier this year we visited the island Texel and watched the feeding of the seals and porpoises in Ecomare, centre for the Wadden region and the North Sea.

Eerder dit jaar bezochten we Texel en waren bij het voeren van de zeehonden en bruinvissen in Ecomare, centrum voor Wadden en Noordzee.

SPERM WHALE (POTVIS)

The cleaned bones of a sperm whale that washed ashore in December can be seen here in nature centre Ecomare on the island of Texel. Now, piece by piece the skeleton is put together again. You can hear all about it during the 'sperm whale presentation' that is held several times a day.

In het natuurcentrum Ecomare op Texel liggen de schoongemaakte botten van een potvis die in december op het eiland aanspoelde. Stukje bij beetje wordt het skelet nu weer in elkaar gezet. De preparateur vertelt je erover tijdens de 'potvispresentatie' die een paar keer per dag gehouden wordt.
