Dinner and Bed

During one of our strolls through the city of Bruges I photographed this sign of ´La SUiTE SAnS CRAvATE´. It's a Bed & Breakfast, and, because they own a restaurant as well according to their website, they also call themselves a Dinner & Bed.
The text on the elegant sign says 'La Suite Sans Cravate' which is French for 'Room Without a Tie', and the Dutch words 'Tafel en Bed' stand for 'Table and Bed'.

Parking for women

 We parked our car at the parking lot belonging to a hotel in Haren to start our hike last Sunday, and there I spotted parking spaces apparently reserved for women wearing shoes with stiletto heels? Hmmm. I checked on their website and found out that it's meant to welcome female business guests; this free of charge service includes courtesy gifts, a flexible check-in and a special and extra well-lit parking space close to the hotel entrance.

Arriving in the centre of Workum, a small village in the south-west of Friesland, last Saturday. On the left is Restaurant Hotel De Gulden Leeuw..

Pharmacy sign

I found this 'gaper' above the door of hotel 'Logement De Gaaper', near the market square in Amersfoort. It's the oldest stone house in the city, and as the head above the entrance indicates it used to be a pharmacy in the second half of the 19th century. The open mouth did not mean the figure was yawning, but that he was ready to take medicine.

Good start of the day

Due to different working hours (and days) we do not often eat breakfast together, so on holidays we enjoy it and take our time in the morning. Our hotel at the Steenhouwersvest in Antwerp served a 'healthy breakfast' as they called it. No breakfast buffet where you have to stand in line, but served like this at the table: a plate with several hearty and sweet sandwich fillings, a boiled egg, fresh fruit, yogurt, orange juice, and coffee or tea. Plus a basket containing different types of bread. Delicious!!

De Koetse

De Vlijt

The high and narrow building is more than a 100 years old and was built by Gerson Levie -a grain merchant then-, to function as a grain storage in the harbour of Coevorden. A few years ago a restoration saved it from total decay, and now it's the location for hotel De Vlijt. I haven't been inside but according to photo's on their website it looks beautiful inside with many details from old times.

Zimmer Frei

Dit uithangbord zou in Duitsland niet bijzonder opvallen, ware het niet dat deze foto in Bad Nieuweschans in Nederland is gemaakt. Dit grensplaatsje is duidelijk op bezoekers uit Duitsland gericht..

This sign ('Zimmer Frei' is German for 'Room Available') probably wouldn't attract as much attention in Germany as it does here, in Bad Nieuweschans in the Netherlands. This town near the border is obviously orientating on visitors from Germany..
