The Urban Buddha Sculpture in the Rensenpark in Emmen is made from recycled wood and plastic waste materials -such as a vacuum cleaner, a laminating machine and a printer. The Buddha is 2.00 x 1.6 m and was made during the event 'Emmen goes Eco' last April.
Nice detail is that raccoons lived on this particular spot for many years; the Rensenpark is on the location of the former Northern Zoo ('Noorder Dierenpark').

298,000 folded paper cranes
When her colleague and good friend Hieke Raap was killed in the disaster with Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 (MH17 was a scheduled passenger flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur that was shot down by the Russians on 17 July 2014 while flying over eastern Ukraine, killing all 298 people on board), teacher Tjitske Dijkstra decided she was going to fold 1,000 paper cranes for Hieke together with her pupils in a way to express their grief.
Her project was soon picked up by the media and it didn't take long before many people also began folding cranes. Not only in the Netherlands, but also in Spain, Germany, Indonesia and Africa. And they all sent the cranes to Tjitske Dijkstra.
The result was a collection of 298,000 paper cranes, 1,000 cranes for each victim of the crash. At first it was unclear what was going to happen with the cranes, but now they form the exhibition "Room of Hope" in a building of the former zoo in Emmen. A great memorial and very very impressive.
I will have a few more photos tomorrow.

Atlas Theater
The 'Atlas Theater' is a brandnew theater in Emmen located at the Raadhuisplein. The building was finished in June of this year and is fully ready for the new theater season starting in October. It's a multi-functional building; besides a theater the building houses a conference room, restaurants and offices.
The Atlas Theater (note the green roof!) also acts as the entrance to 'Wildlands Adventure Zoo Emmen', an adventure theme park with 3 areas: Jungola, Serenga, and Nortica. Wildlands opened in March 2016 and 'replaced' the Emmen Zoo. Part of the zoo animals moved to Wildlands, such as elephants, giraffes, rhinos, polar bears, and baboons.

Egnoaber
This sculpture called Egnoaber was revealed less than a month ago on the brand new Townhall Square in the village of Emmen.
It was Belgian sculpturor Nick Ervinck (1981) who made this 7 m high runaway tree root-like structure. He was inspired by Eastern as well as Western artistic forms. Egnoaber was designed on Ervincks computer, and was then given shape by the use of polyester.
The new square looks nice and spacious, and has several shallow water 'ponds' in which children can play.
But what to think of Egnoaber up there? I'm not sure. Maybe you can help me? :)

samba-drumming
It's a pity there is no sound with these photo's! This couple in pink and black was really cheering up the crowd with their rhythmical freestyle samba drumming.
--
Jammer dat er geen geluid is bij deze foto's! Dit stel in roze en zwart vrolijkten de mensen op met hun ritmische freestyle samba drumming.
While they were both blowing a whistle, the man was doing most of the drum solo's.
--
Terwijl beide op een fluitje bliezen, nam de man de meeste drumsolo's voor zijn rekening.
