Vulcanic grill
Lanzarote restaurant 'El Diablo' was built next to a vulcano and is located in the heart of Timanfaya National Park. With a large grill put over a vulcanic opening, they use heat coming directly from the earth. When we were there, potatoes and chicken were being prepared.
The most recent vulcanic eruption on the island took place in 1824.

Smeerling #2
Another view, now showing the side of restaurant 'Gasterij Natuurlijk Smeerling'. They serve local and organic food during day hours. An example is 'poffert', about which I posted back in 2015 (click HERE if you'd like to read more)

Smeerling #1
Restaurant 'Gasterij Natuurlijk Smeerling' is located in a former -and completely renovated- farm house and barn, in the heart of the Westerwolde region. The entrance is around the corner here.
A closer look at the weathered roof tiles.

Pancake ship
The Liberté was built in 1901 and has been a cargo vessel in the European waters for over 75 years. In 1993 restaurant owner Jan Vrielink bought the ship and brought it to Meppel, where it was transformed into a restaurant ship specialised in pancakes.
It's a real eye-catcher now at the Stoombootkade (Steamboat Quay) in the centre of Meppel.

Beach view
View on the beach and North Sea from one of the beach restaurants near Callantsoog. I like the birds that were placed there next to the tables, all shaped from wire. And how about that rain shower in the distance! We kept it dry though - the rain didn't come ashore.

Beach restaurant
The walls and even the ceiling of this beach restaurant near Callantsoog were filled with "sea things" and other stuff.
Fish was swimming everywhere ;)
Colourful art near the entrance stairs of the restaurant.

At the Danish westcoast
After an early morning arrival by ferry in the north of Denmark we drove a beautiful route along the westcoast..
.. stopped for coffee at a roadside restaurant..
.. and had a look at the beach. There was a lot of wind that day!

In the streets of Lillehammer
Some things hold your attention longer than others. Like this gentleman that walked past us in the streets of Lillehammer with his red moped..
..and the moose that was looking inside Nikkers, a bar/restaurant in the centre.

Lake Paterswolde
Our hike last Sunday passed the south side of the Paterswoldsemeer (Lake Paterswolde), a popular leisure area southwest of the city of Groningen. The building and view tower on the left are on a small peninsula and belong to restaurant De Twee Provinciën (The Two Provinces), as the lake is right on the border between the provinces of Groningen and Drenthe.

Terrace on the water
Yesterday's photo had a boat restaurant in Delft, this photo shows another one. With a canal in front, and no room for tables and chairs on the pavement, a boat seems a perfect alternative for a terrace during the Spring and Summer season!

Dinner with a view
We were happy to be in this restaurant for dinner on one of the evenings in Bruges; we got a window table with this gorgeous view at the market square and the Belfort Tower!

Afsluitdijk monument café
Next to the Afsluitdijk monument -see also my previous 2 posts- is a tiny café/restaurant annex souvenir shop. Inside are basic wooden tables and chairs, and wherever you look there are (black and white) photographs, newspaper clippings, old postcards etc. They all tell and inform about the history of the Afsluitdijk.
Open every day of the year, it's a popular place to stop and it is often crowded inside. It's a café with character though and I hope they will keep it just as it is.

The Hairy Pig Deli sign
During our stay in Sweden this month we took the train one day to visit the beautiful city Stockholm, and where to find more signs than in a big city? :)
This restaurant "The Hairy Pig Deli" can be found at the Österlånggatan in Gamla Stan, the old city of Stockholm. I googled their website for the origins of the peculiar name, and read that The Hairy Pig Deli began as a dream in the Loire Valley in France. After a succesful wild boar hunt, chef Joseph Turner had the idea of one day opening a restaurant called "The Hairy Pig Deli". And eventually the dream came true much more far north, in Stockholm Sweden!

De Bonte Os sign
Herberg De Bonte Os ("The Coloured Ox Inn") is a steakhouse restaurant at the Torenstraat in Kampen that, according to their website, is known for their love for fresh beef. I haven't been inside so can't tell you if their food is good, however I really like how they present themselves at the outside!
