View from a bridge
With its canals, historical buildings and narrow streets, Delft has pretty views. A boat trip on the canals is very popular among tourists.

Zandvoort love locks
Love locks along the boulevard in Zandvoort, with the North Sea in the background..
Apparently this small part of the km-long fence was especially prepared for the love padlocks with a concrete mesh, we didn't see them on the rest of the fence.
I'm linking to Good Fences.

Museum island
I'm standing on a footbridge here with the Groninger Museum on my right. The museum buildings are located on an island that connects the Central Station with the city centre. As you can see it's a colourful area, with a bright blue concrete walkway and blue fences. The photo with the stand up paddlers that I showed you yesterday was also taken from this spot, looking over the water to my right.

See-through fence
I'm standing outside the Jacob Cramerpark here, next to the museum in Assen (see also my posts from last Monday and Tuesday). Somehow the hanging branches fit very well with the fence.

Prison Museum Veenhuizen
Last Sunday we visited the National Prison Museum in Veenhuizen. This village in the province of Drenthe was and is known for the prison complexes, of which one is still in use. The other one, named ´complex no. 2´ that you see on the photo, is now the National Prison Museum. From the 19th century the Department of Justice used it as a penal colony, so it was not an ´ordinary´ prison.
Veenhuizen used to be closed off to everyone but the inmates, and the staff and their families who lived in houses provided by the department. Since 1984 the village is freely accessible for all, which in fact doesn´t really seem that long ago..

Following up on yesterday's post about the Sint-Janshuismolen (the Saint-John's house mill) in Bruges, this is a detail of the fence with the pattern.

Ontvangershuis Assen
The 'ontvangershuis' (lit: 'reception house') is the oldest private residence in Assen and can be found at the Brink. Once it was one of the buildings of the Maria in Campis Monastery and has most likely been the home of a priest. Many years later the local authoroties used it as an office as well as a guesthouse for important guests.
The province of Drenthe bought the house in 1955, and soon after that it became a part of the Drents Museum. It still is today.

Look at the pretty fence on both sides of the steps leading to the front door. The fence once belonged to a manor in Zuidlaren.

Reiderwolderpolder
View from the dike in the vast Reiderwolderpolder, in the far north east of the province Groningen. Fences divide the grounds for sheep.
Hikers are welcome, you cross the fence by stepping over it.

hearts and anchors
During an evening walk last Summer through the small village of Hölick, located on the Swedish peninsula Hornslandet, we passed this house. Doesn't it have a amazing view on the Gulf of Bothnia, and doesn't it have a wonderful gate/fence with all these hearts and anchors! :)

museum garden fence
We found this eye catching ornamental fence at the back side of the garden belonging to Museum De Buitenplaats in Eelde, which we visited last Sunday. It's lovely, isn't it?

Ruvallen
When we stayed in Funäsdalen in Sweden last August, this group of houses called 'Ruvallen' was a starting point of one of the hikes we made. In Swedish it is called a 'fäbod': a place were farmers and their families live during the summer to have their livestock graze common land.

These kind of fences are very common in Sweden. They must be very strong, as they have to carry a lot of snow in the Winter.

Dit soort hekken zie je overal in Zweden. Ze moeten wel sterk zijn, om tijdens de winter de vele sneeuw te kunnen dragen.
Ruvallen is a private area. To reach it from the main road you have to drive a toll road for 2 km.
