Besides a market at the open square, Oulu has a historic market hall that was opened in 1901. The city councel of Oulu decided to build an indoor market due to tightened food safety regulations. Specifically butchers had to move to the covered market.
Spread over 2 aisles are 62 wooden shop stalls that sell everything from food (meat/fish/bread etc.). clothes, handicrafts, and more.

Fruit market
We're back from 2 weeks travelling through beautiful -and tropical- Finland. This photo was taken at the market in Oulu, at which mainly fresh fruit was sold like strawberries and raspberries.

Orvelte winter fair
Two images from the winter fair from last weekend in the village of Orvelte. We were there before the crowds came and had a good chance to look around.
Lots of handmade things to choose from.

Bench
This nice wooden bench belonged to one of the stalls of the antique market (I think) across the street that day in Delft.

Balcony view
Still not done with showing you impressions from our city trip to Bruges in November :) This photo was made while standing on the 'panorama-view balcony' of the Beer Museum, located at the market square. Zooming in to the other end of the square we looked right into one of the shopping streets that was nicely decorated for Christmas. The white tree on the left was in the centre of the ice-rink.

Books books books!
It´s the first Sunday of August which means the annual book fair in Deventer! There were 878 market stalls in total this year with mostly second hand books in any genre that you can possibly think of.
Though the day started sunny it became cloudy soon, however with temperatures of about 20°C (68°F) it was perfect to spend some hours here.
And with a catch of 5 books we have enough to read in the coming weeks :)

Portrait
Partly hidden by some market stalls is this mural on the side wall of the Stedelijk Museum (City Museum) in Kampen. A number of artists was asked to make a design, and this portrait made by Henk Neijenhuis from Zwolle was chosen because of the inquisitive look and the beautiful eyes that look right at you.

From the archives #65
(Yorkshire, U.K. - 2014)
After a pause of almost a year I am continuing with my "From the archives"-series today, with a photo from August 2014 taken at the Newgate Market in York (UK). This daily open market is also known as the Shambles Market. Wherever we are, I always enjoy strolling around on a local market, how about you?Have a wonderful weekend!

Deventer book fair
We visited the Deventer book fair this weekend, a huge event that takes place each year on the first Sunday of August.
A total of 878 market stalls through the city streets and along the IJssel River were selling books: novels, history books, comic books, thrillers, childrens books etc etc
This photo is from the central square, and taken in the morning when it wasn't very crowded yet. According to the news that we heard later, 130,000 people visited Deventer on this day.

Vancouver (BC) - Canada (2012)
A very nice thing to do if you are in downtown Vancouver, is to hop on a water taxi and pay a visit to Granville Island. This peninsula was once an industrial manufacturing area, but is now a popular shopping district and famous for its Public Market, where this photo was taken.
The Granville Island Public Market features a farmers' market, day vendors, and artists offering local Vancouver goods. There are 50 permanent retailers and over 100 day vendors in stalls throughout the market selling a variety of foods and handmade crafts.

Peanut man
It is getting colder now, and it won´t be long before we will be feeding the birds in our garden again. This 'peanut man' was for sale at one of the Autumn fairs we visited.
