Autumn chores

The public works-department came by yesterday to clean the (dry) ditch across the street.

Solar farm

A solar farm at the Vleddermond industrial area in Stadskanaal.

Plans are to create a second solar farm nearby at the end of 2019.

Music pavilion

The music pavilion in the Julianapark in Stadskanaal, rebuilt in 2012 after a fire.

Garden centre

Each time I visit our local garden centre they have new and creative displays for their home and garden plants.

They told me that because they don't belong to a large store chain, they don't have to stick to a certain fixed design for their interior. That means their stylist is given a free hand. And he or she is good!

The Yellow Bridge

This Yellow Bridge called "Gele Klap" is a vertical-lift bridge in Stadskanaal. The name Klap refers to the Dutch word 'klapbrug' or 'drawbridge', after the old wooden drawbridge that was here before 1867.

The Stadskanaal public library is located on the ground floor of an apartment building.

The words 'De Bibliotheek' above the entrance mean 'The Library'.

'Ubbo Emmius' is a local comprehensive school with over 3,000 students and 8 different locations. The building on the photo is at the Stationslaan in Stadskanaal.

Safety first

 

Even though March is on the doorstep it is very cold here -for our standards anyway-; this morning at 11 a.m. it was still -8°C (18°F) and feeling much colder due to strong winds coming from the east. Brrrr! In the meantime this vehicle is busy mowing the sides of the railroad track as a preparation for the new season of the STAR steamtrain.

Zooming in I noticed the yellow sticker on the side saying: "Zie je mij, zie ik jou" or "When you see me, I see you". A text that can be seen frequently in traffic, like on long trucks. Safety first!

Gloomy day

Happy to see the sun today after a few gloomy days with drizzling rain every now and then. I went for a walk yesterday and took this photo, with a houseboat on the left and a drawbridge just behind it.
