The Binoculars

View to the 'Rabotower', the Rabobank Executive Centre, in Utrecht. The 2 connected towers were built between 2007 and 2011 and are also known as 'The Binoculars'.

KreaDoe hobby fair

A few impressions from my visit yesterday at the Kreadoe, an annular 5-day hobby fair for creative inspiration and DIY, in Utrecht.

At many stands you could see how things were made and what to do with the many different items..

.. or you could take part in one of the workshops. These ladies were making fun cakes at a 'creative baking' workshop.

The swan as symbol

The swan with spread wings on the exterior wall of the Lutheran Church community centre in Utrecht symbolises Luther and the Lutheran Church, while the date refers to the month and year in which the centre in the Hamburgerstraat was built. The tile tableau on the photo was made by the local Westraven tile factory.

Creativity Fair

Two impressions from my visit to the KreaDoe today. The Kreadoe is a huge and annual 6-day fair for everyone who loves ´handmade and DIY´, and it´s held in the Jaarbeursgebouw in Utrecht. The event is all about creativity and shows (and sells of course) the latest trends on crocheting, knitting, paper crafts, painting, home deco, scrapbooking, etc etc.
I brought home a few nice items for my crocheting and handlettering hobbies, so I'm pleased about that :)

And I wasn't the only one here today!

Freedom

Today May 5 is Bevrijdingsdag (Liberation Day), this day marks the end of WW2 and we celebrate the fact that we live in freedom. But it is also a day on which we reflect on the lack of freedom elsewhere in the world: at the many Liberation Festivals that are held today, young people are made aware of the fact that freedom is not something they should take for granted.

If you would like to read more about the meaning of May 4 (Remembrance Day) and May 5 in the Netherlands please visit the official website HERE.

I made this photo of a pavement stone in Utrecht a few years ago.
