Island ferry

Back at the ferry at the end of the afternoon.

It takes about 40 minutes to the Lauwersoog harbour on the mainland.

On the ferry

Photo taken earlier this month from the ferry between Genemuiden and Zwartsluis; crossing the Zwarte Water river takes only a few minutes. The ferry goes back and forth about 200 times a day, 7 days a week and takes pedestrians, cyclists, cars, motorbikes and trucks.
We don't have many ferries like this in the Netherlands, so it was a nice break during the travel home.

Shrimpcutter TM26

This photo was taken from the ferry that took us from Schiermonnikoog back to Lauwersoog at the mainland, last Sunday. Just before arriving at the Lauwersoog harbour this boat went by, giving us a pretty view in the late afternoon sun.

Wondering what ´TM26´ meant I googled and found out that the letters TM stand for Termunterzijl, a small village in the north of the Netherlands. The number 26 seems sequential.
It´s originally a shrimpcutter named MEEUW ('SEAGULL'), built in 1911 in the Groninger village of Oude Pekela. It was motorized in 1928, claimed by the Germans during WW2, and from 1971 used for sport fishing and other recreational purposes. In 1988 the cutter was completely renovated.

Ferry reflection

Standing on the upper deck of the Stenaline ferry to Göteborg, we slowly passed this huge cruise ship just after leaving the quay of Kiel harbour in Germany. As you can see, all huts there had large windows and their own balconies, in which we saw our ferry reflect as we passed.
Photo taken last July.

no nosy neighbors..

..just hundreds of tourists watching you and photographing you day in day out from passing ferries...

But, if you like being on your own, I guess this is your spot! The island with the house and lighthouse is located at the Swedish coast near Göteborg. The photo's are from last Summer.

Älvsborg bridge

When you travel to Göteborg -Sweden- on a Stena Line ferry it is recommended that you stay on one of the outer decks as long as possible. It is not only interesting to watch all the activities in the harbour and on the water of the Göta Älv, but it is also quite an experience to see how the huge ship passes the Älvsborgsbron just before arriving on the Stena Line quay.

 Getting closer.

We komen dichterbij.

Hmm, will it fit?

Past dat eigenlijk wel?

Made it.  :)

Another image taken on the ferry from Den Helder to Texel, here still waiting at the shore.

Nog een foto genomen vanaf de veerboot van Den Helder naar Texel, hier nog aan de kade.

island hopping

Het Waddenveer brengt je -eventueel samen met je fiets- van Texel naar Vlieland en weer terug.

The 'Wadden ferry' brings you -and your bicycle if you bring one- from Texel to Vlieland and back.

and another one..

flying..

Als iemand de meeuwen gaat voeren op de boot van Den Helder naar Texel is een goed moment om je camera te pakken..

When someone starts to feed the seagulls on the ferry from Den Helder to the island Texel, it is a good moment to grab your camera..
