'Chandeliers (like the one on the photo in a previous post) and Towers are perhaps the best example of Chihuly's desire to mass and control color on a grand scale. Unlike traditional chandeliers, they reflect light instead of emitting it.' (Museum info)
Go see the exhibition in the Groninger Museum if you have the chance. Happy Friday! :)

Work in progress
The train station area in Assen has been a building site since 2016, but it is all going to be finished later this year. This photo was taken from the temporary bridge that takes train passengers to the other platforms...

His Master's Voice
"His Master's Voice" is an artwork consisting of dozens of copper pipes each ending with a horn. It was created by Dutch sculptor Paul Vendel (1964) in 1993 and can be found in the 'Museonder', the underground part of the De Hoge Veluwe Nat.Park visitor's centre.
And seen from above. According to Vendel the construction connects the underground museum with the ground above.

Last breath
The Korte Ademhalingssteeg ("Short Alley of Breaths") connects the Great Church Square with the Central Square in Zwolle. The origin of this name is rather gruesome; it refers to the days in history in which criminals were lead to the scaffold at the central square. In this alley they literally drew their last breaths before being executed.

Conzett Bridge
The Conzett Bridge crosses the Coupure canal in the city of Bruges. The bridge -only allowed for pedestrians and cyclists- was designed by Swiss architect Jurg Conzett, in the year 2002 when Bruges was European Capital of Culture. The bridge floor is connected to 2 huge steel pipes than can rotate so the floor will be lifted and boats can pass.
Photo taken in November last year.

Bruges mills
On the remains of the old city fortifications of Bruges, that date from 1297, 4 wooden mills can be found at a section called 'Kruisvest'. It's part of a lovely walking route of about 9 km at which you also pass the old city gates. (more about those later). I loved this Autumn view with the sunlight on the leaves.
Watching from one mill to the next with the sun on our backs.

A late afternoon view from the Oudestraat into the shadows of an alley called the Melksteeg, in the city of Kampen. The fishing net hanging there at the end is from a pet supply store.

Bicycles for rent
Schiermonnikoog is very popular when it comes to cycling. Many tourists come for a day, or a few days, and rent a bicycle on the island. One of the places where you can go for a bicycle is ´Schierfiets´ in the village. When you enter the street there is a nice sign, and ..

Athens, Greece (2010)
This is the renovated Attalosstoa, nowadays next to the modern Agora Museum. A long time ago the local people of Athens came to this place to shop for their daily goods. It is located on a park-like area in the centre of the city, next to a large open square with government buildings around.

clock tower shadow
This window belongs to the Älvros church, near Sveg in Sweden. It caught my attention not only because of the beautiful window and see through, but also because of the subtle shadow of the clock tower standing next to the church.

Dit raam behoort toe aan de Älvros kerk, vlakbij Sveg in Zweden. Niet alleen het raam en het doorkijkje vielen me op, maar ook de subtiele schaduw van de klokkentoren die ernaast stond.
