Faces
Two seven meter high stone children's heads form a specially for Leeuwarden designed mist fountain. Facing each other with closed eyes, the sculpture by Spanish artist Jaume Plensa (1955) is called 'LOVE'. A local boy and girl aged 10-14 were models for the art work.
The city of Leeuwarden is European Capital of Culture 2018, the mist fountain is one of its projects. It is placed in front of the central station, and will start working this Spring. I am curious how it will look like with water!

A new face
One hundred portraits in spatial pixels from residents in the city of Groningen form one new "average" face (if there is one..;): this artwork from the wall of a municipal building in Groningen city was revealed in 2014 and is called "Groninger Universalis". It was created by Lambert Kamps (he also made the folly of the former church tower that I showed you recenty) and Tjeerd Veenhoven.
Have a sparkling New Year's Eve!

We visited the 'Paper Art 2017'-exhibition in the CODA Museum in Apeldoorn today. This was one of the pieces. Can you see the faces?

´What a coincidence!´ by Milan Kunc
Following up on yesterday´s post this is another piece by Czech/German artist Milan Kunc that appealed to me; an oil painting called ´What a coincidence!´. As explained yesterday it was part of a Groninger Museum exhibition last year, showing German Neo-expressionism from the 1980s.

Punk girls by Milan Kunc
One of the exhibitions in the Groninger Museum that I visited last year was called "Nieuwe Wilden" ("The New Wild Ones"), about the late-modernist or early-postmodern painting and sculpture that emerged in the late 1970s.
On the photo are 4 punk girls from Düsseldorf painted by hand in Cubist style by Milan Kunc (Praque 1944). I like his art a lot!

The face (2)
The face is on a building along the Rokin. I have no idea who created it, or what's the idea behind it..

The face
On our way from the Amsterdam train station to the Museum Square we passed this face coming out of the wall of the Universiteit van Amsterdam (University of Amsterdam). Even though it's a bit damaged it looks almost real, don't you think?
