Apart from the big parking place behind me on the photo, and next to a parking spot for disabled people, this supermarket in Coevorden also has three parking spots especially for women! ;))
That sign seems to imply that it is still women who do most of the grocery shopping. Or perhaps, being more kind, women struggle with heavy loads more than a man does.
Are they kidding? I don't exactly think men and women are the same, but I don't know why I need a better parking place than my husband does when he does the shopping!
I don't know about in the NL, but in Germany it is sometimes for safety reasons. Women may feel safer parking closer to the store at night. Sometimes here these are also interpreted as being for women with small kids as it can be a hassle to lug all of the stroller, etc. out of the car.
Also I always park as far away as I can because it is good exercise to walk ...and sometimes the only exercize I get on shopping day! I wonder if the supermarket is in a dangerous area of town though where it is safer to be close to the window?
I like this idea (of course, because I am a woman :) But I have also seen in Germany in the parking garage the places for women to be near the elevator. And it is safe in dark parking garages.
I don't think we have any special parkings just for women, there are spaces for shoppers with prams but I'm guessing they are for dads with prams also :) Loved reading the comments here Marleen :)

I think these special parking spaces will be very convenient and helpful for mothers with little children. It is not easy having to carry heavy load and at the same time holding on to their young kids.
We have a few at parking places in town, but I have never seen any at the shopping malls ( We do have for families, those who have a baby and a pram in the car)
That's interesting. Is there a reason why they've done this?
BeantwoordenVerwijderenHuh, waarom is dat? Zou er eerder een invalide parkeerplaats verwachten.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenDie was er ook hoor. Ik heb dat nog even toegevoegd in de tekst :)
VerwijderenAldi is very thoughtful! ;-)
BeantwoordenVerwijderenGood for transvestites too.

VerwijderenI think you may be right, Halcyon. Obviously Aldi is from Germany. And I can't think of any other reason for these signs.

BeantwoordenVerwijderenSallie's second comment seems to be possible- it's deemed safer, being closer to the door?
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI remember some discussion going on here about exclusive parking spots for women only, but the reasoning was different.
Past uitstekend in het bordenthema van Paulien Cornelisse van vanavond in DWDD.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenOh, yeah. I'd call that discrimination. :-)
BeantwoordenVerwijderenIs this gender equality? Unusual looking parking signs.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenTalk about a can of worms . . .
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWould be interesting to know the reasoning.
Sexist!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenNot sure how I feel about this - unless as Sallie says, it may be a dangerous area. In which case, I would rather have an escort to my car.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWell I for one think it's a good idea, especially at night!

BeantwoordenVerwijderenHa! That is hilarious
BeantwoordenVerwijderenSexism!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenYou have some wonderful pictures on here, fabulous!

BeantwoordenVerwijderenHa! those signs would get kicked to the curb in our overly political correct U.S.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenlovely.
BeantwoordenVerwijderen:)
That is something I haven't seen!

BeantwoordenVerwijderenI have never see this before!
